Waqrapukara

Waqrapukara (from waqra, meaning “horn,” and pukara, meaning “fortress”; “fortress in the shape of a horn”) is an Inca archaeological complex located in the farming community of Huayqui, an annex of Percca, in the Acos district, within the Acomayo province in the Cusco region.

Situated near the Apurímac River at 4,300 meters above sea level, Waqrapukara was originally built by the Canchis people before being conquered by the Incas. In July 2017, it was declared a Cultural Heritage of the Nation by the Ministry of Culture of Peru.

This site is believed to have been an Inca sanctuary, featuring terraces, plazas, and a stunning stone forest, all harmoniously integrated into the surrounding Andean landscape.
